Histoy of Mango in India

Mango is one of the most widely grown fruits of the tropical countries with its scientific name (Magnifera Indica). In India, mango is cultivated almost in all parts and the mango season runs between April and July. Mango is a rich source of Vitamins A, C and D. India leads the production of mangoes in the world with almost half the total production. Each region has its own mangoes which are best suited to its native conditions. Overall, India is home to about 2500 mango varieties. Well-nourished plants start bearing fruits after 3-5 years of planting are harvested between early February to August in most areas. Shelf life of mango fruits is short – about 2-3 weeks, hence they are stored in low temperatures of 12-13°C.
